Hey everyone,
I thought I would sign in and introduce my self. My name is Dan and I live in Okotoks. Ive been looking for a new hobby and am very interested in Airsoft. I dont have any experience with it so Im looking to get started. From what Ive read, Imperial seems to be a great place for gear. Any suggestions on a weapon? Buy new or used? Are there games set up for new players?
thanks!
D

A primary is up to you really you have a big selection. I would suggest looking at canadian airsoft dealers in the retail thread and see what you like, once you have decided what you like DO REASEARCH look it up online watch reviews on it then make your final decision off of that. As for games most people are open to new players you just gotta watch the threads for the games.

Train wreck has the right idea on guns. As for gear I rely heavily on eBay but you have to know what you want beforehand. If you can make it I would suggest coming to the swap meet on Sunday and check out what people have and what you like. Plus you can ask questions to your hearts content there.

The swap meet would be a great way to see what everything feels like in real life, and to see what is available both used and from retailers. Not only will Imperial have a both, but so will 007 Airosft, Breach Tactical, and Bent Barrel.

I don't know if there are any plans for such this year, but last season Dusty ran several newbie-friendly skirmish games at Warpaint Airsoft that really sold the concept to people. Definitely something to look into if you want a taste of the game - Most of the major retailers rent out gear, and I know many players are also willing to rent/lend stuff out, so don't feel obligated to drop a thousand dollars on a complete rig before you even go out to sling some plastic. The Devils also hosted an airsoft training seminar out at Weekend Warriors last season that was well worth the price of admission.
As for where to purchase gear, I'd shop around a bit, were I you. Imperial's pricing is not the best, and I've yet to hear of a retailer that won't ship. Section 8 down in Lethbridge isn't too bad, if you like KWA, though my experience with them is admittedly limited.

when you get gear remember cheaper is almost never better. you can find deals on used issue stuff on ebay such as eagle plate carriers and lbt 6094 (both pricey) right now there is a eagle carrier for $70 and its ex marsoc used so has a cool storey. ferro concepts makes very high quality gear and he has been playing for a long time and is local so i would really try to go there if you could as if you have any issues its easily resolved. lastly look at reviews online of the gear you are looking for some brands like tmc are good quality and a good price point but pay a bit more for flyye or pantac knockoff stuff and fitment and quality are that much better for minimal more of an investment.

So many different types of weapons. Spring? AEG? Gas? what do most guys run? Im going to try and make it down to the swap meet to look at some used stuff. Im also trying to drag a friend along so I dont have to go alone. Id like to get age verified aswell so I can browse the for sale section of the site. Im going to go out on a limb and say that ebay/kijiji arent allowed to post weapons for sale. I appreciate all your help with this, thanks.

best gun for realiability would be electric but cool factor is gas. i would start with an electric aeg and once you have your legs in the sport start gunning fun factor guns. m series guns are most common i always liked g and p and vfc. there are tons of brands and everyone will tell you something different but come to the swap meet there will be lots of new and used guns and gear for sale. pick some brains while there and you will start off in the right direction im sure.
